Epic `Star Wars' battles soon on Cartoon Network  (Go To Top)

Washington, Aug 2: 'Star Wars: Clone Wars', a series of animated shorts featuring the epic battles which often find mention but are hardly seen in the Star Wars films, will soon be seen on the boob tube, according to a report in Eonline. The series directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, whose claim to fame is the popular Cartoon Network series 'Samurai Jack' and 'Dexter's Laboratory', will have a three-minute long toon adventure. Each adventure will feature Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and their cohorts, leading the Galactic Republic against evil armies of cloned troopers created by the Separatists. Simply woven together, the strip narrates one complete story, with a few diversions in the form of minor characters. Tartakovsky seemed to be inspired by the Japanese director Akira Kurosawa of 'Rashomon' and 'Seven Samurai' fame and his epic films. "It's beautiful-looking and there will be plenty of action," Cartoon Network spokeswoman Laurie Goldberg said.

Clone Wars is slated to hit the screens on 9th November and each episode will arrive at regularly scheduled intervals. Network programmers are also discussing available options for rolling out the 'toons, with the cable channel likely to present the first 10 episodes in the fall and another 10 in the spring. Cartoon Network is also holding talks with 'Terminator' director George Lucas-owned Lucasfilm about extending their alliance to create an exclusive Star Wars animated series. However, the Star Wars set has been cribbing that "the 'toons aren't long enough". "While it would have been great to see more of the Clone Wars on the big screen and less of Jar Jar. Fans have been waiting for another Star Wars animated series for a long time, so there's a lot of enthusiasm around this project," Scott Chitwood of theforce.net, one of the Internet's biggest Star Wars fan sites, said.

Diaz pleads for ban on topless snaps (Go To Top)

London, Aug 2: 'Charlie's Angels' beauty Cameron Diaz is pleading for a ban on publication of her "topless" snaps to save herself from embarrassment, distress and monetary loss. Cameron, 30, has appealed to a judge to ban publication of photographs of showing her in a leather basque. The 28 pictures and a sexy video of her semi-naked are to be published in magazines and newspapers worldwide. "This court should stop selling of the photos in the US, or anywhere throughout the world," the star was quoted as saying by the Sun. The pictures were taken when she was a 19-year-old fashion model. "These pictures will cause me distress, embarrassment and anger," she said in a statement to a Los Angeles court. The actress also claimed that it would damage her Hollywood career loss of her money from endorsements and advertising. The photographer, John Rutter, however, says Cameron was happy to pose topless. "She didn't express concerns about exposing her breasts. Miss Diaz wore various combinations of attire, some of which revealed her breasts. In one session she wore a leather corset covering her stomach but designed to show her breasts."

Cameron, on the other hand, insists that there was a verbal agreement that the pictures would be used in quality magazines that emphasized their "artistic or visual aspects". She said she was stunned when Rutter contacted her agent in June, saying he had been offered several million dollars for the pictures and the video. "Rutter said the magazines were going to print a story in a negative way and would depict me in a sinister light." Rutter said if she paid him the sum offered by the magazines he would not sell the pictures, a worried Diaz claimed. The case will be heard next week.
