Search on for missing climbers in Mt Kangaru

     Kathmandu: A French and Nepalese team has started a joint helicopter search for the 17 climbers feared to have been killed in avalanches in the Himalayas during their expedition to the 6,981-metre Mount Kangaru on October 20.. The body of one French climber, Bruno Chardin, has already been found. The helicopter team is carrying two sniffer dogs. The ill-fated expedition, led by Daniel Stolzenberg, 60, was thought to have been asleep at a base camp above 4,000 metres when the huge avalanche struck. The French climbers were Gregory Flematti, Bernard Constantin, Jean-Francois Jube, Jean-Paul Minette and Chardin.

Son of former Prime Minister abducted

     Kathmandu: Two Maoists have abducted the son of former Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand, Arun Chand, Chuha in Kailali district. The Maoists came at around 8:30 pm on October 27 and kidnapped him from a mill premises. Arun is the Managing Director of the biggest sugar mill of western Nepal. The mill has remained closed for a long time for want of funds to pay the farmers for their sugarcane. Arun had gone to the mill to settle financial matters.

Dacoits loot 70 houses in Sarlahi: Four injured

    Kathmandu: Four pople have been injured and valuables worth Rs 1.4 million looted by armed dacoits who raided 70 houses at Shiva Nagar Basti of Padariya in Sarlahi district. Four locals were injured when the dacoits hit them with batons during the looting spree. The dacoits had blocked all roads to Shiva Nagar Basti, 9 km north of district headquarters Mangalawa between 11 pm to 3 am. The masked dacoits beat them up the residents with bamboo batons for refusing to give them the keys of cupboards. Local youth Rakesh Kumar Bharati said the dacoits had carried axe, khukuri, hammer and other weapons.SP at the District Police Office, Manohar Rimal, alleged that the locals did not inform the police about the incident on time.
