Cabinet discusses agenda for brief Parliament session
| The
Union Cabinet meeting at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's official residence in
New Delhi on Saturday to discuss the agenda for the new government |
New Delhi: The Union Cabinet,
which met here on Saturday, decided to have the President's address in the joint
Parliament session on June 4 and delved on various issues related to UPA Govt.’s
policies and programmes to be addressed. The first meet of the Cabinet was held
at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's 7, Race Course residence and lasted for nearly
two hours. President Pratibha Patil's address to the joint sitting of Parliament
on June four is expected to unveil the UPA Government's agenda for the year ahead
as per the policies and programmes of the ruling party and its allies. It is likely
to touch upon Govt.’s commitment to strengthening schemes like NREGA (National
Rural Employment Guarantee Act) and economic policies to be followed in the wake
of global recession and promises to weaker sections of society. Besides, the Cabinet
also took up the business schedule of the coming session of Parliament. The first
session of 15th Lok Sabha will commence on Monday and will last up to June 9.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh chaired the Cabinet meet. Dr. Singh is believed
to have held deliberations with his team on implementing the 100-day programme
of the government during the two-hour long meeting. The Prime Minister has reportedly
assigned each minister various tasks to be achieved by concerned departments under
the ministry within 100 days of the government taking office.
