Meira Kumar pays floral tributes to prominent leaders

India's first woman speaker of the Lok Sabha, Meira Kumar, paid floral tributes at the memorials of prominent leaders on Saturday in New Delhi.

     New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar paid floral tributes at the memorials of various prominent leaders here on Saturday. Starting with Rajghat, the memorial to the Father of India, Mahatma Gandhi, she also paid a visit to the memorials of her father, Jagjivan Ram and Indira Gandhi. "We have all the great men of our country here. Starting with Mahatma Gandhi, then all the other memorials of great men, and also of my father. I have come to pay my respects," said Meira Kumar. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had termed Meira Kumar's election as momentous in the nation's history. Kumar's name was proposed by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and seconded by Advani besides leaders of several political parties.
