Sonia Gandhi visits Sadauli village in Rae Bareli

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on a three-day tour of her constituency Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh.

      Sadauli (Uttar Pradesh): Congress president Sonia Gandhi visited Sadauli, a village in her parliamentary constituency of Rae Bareli on Monday. Sonia Gandhi, on a three-day-tour of her constituency, spent about 30 minutes and heard the problems faced by the villagers. She also inspected allied works executed under Union Government's National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) scheme. "We are glad that she (Sonia Gandhi) is coming after so many days. She will provide solutions to our problems," said Ram Prasad, a local resident. The villagers expressed hopes that Sonia Gandhi would address their problems and initiate steps to bring an end to these. "We want to meet her. She should look into our problems. Twice my house was razed down. I don't have a penny. There is no proper colony in our region," said Shyama Devi, another local resident. This is Sonia Gandhi's second visit to her constituency of Rae Bareilly, she is expected to review the development works in the remote villages under her constituency during her 3-day stay.

      Sonia Gandhi held 'chaupals' in three villages of Rae Bareli and heard the complaints of the people. Soon after her arrival, she first proceeded to Beriaya Ka Tola at Rampur Sudakan village in Bachrawa Assembly segment where she had a one-to-one interaction with mostly Dalit women. She heard complaints related to the non-availablity of ration cards, fake records of the NREGA, irregularities in Indira Awas and scarcity of handpumps. Later, she also held 'chaupal' at Satti village. During her three-day visit, she is scheduled to inaugurate the Rajiv Gandhi Hostel at the Feroz Gandhi Engineering Institute. Besides meeting party workers, she will also tour different parts of her constituency.
