Bemoan Lack of Civic Amenities in Mount Abu MOUNT ABU: Despite the bone-chilling cold, hill stations are flocked by tourists in winter season. Same goes for Mount Abu also. But the difference comes in when tourists arriving in the hope of some good time are faced with lack of basic amenities.
Anand Zariwala, who has come from Surat, said, "the athorities should take steps to improve the facilities here. I have been to various other hill stations also, and in comparison, development is very little here." Hoteliers and local people also feel that steps should be taken for the development of the city. Sunil Aggarwal, president of the Mount Abu Hotels Association, said, "Steps should be taken for the beautification of the city. Roads should be broadened. Due to narrow roads, traffic gets jammed at popular tourist sites. At Delwara temple, which is the most popular tourist place here, parking is a major problem." " Ample parking space should be provided. Steps should be taken to promote gardens, which can become a major tourist attraction here," added Geeta Aggarwal, councillor, Mount Abu, and a social worker. However, the athorities seem to take no notice of these problems. Instead, they are trying to pass the buck to tourists. Upender Singh Shekhavat, Assistant Director, Tourism, Mount Abu, said, "People themselves are responsible for this. New spots have not been identified. Earlier tourists used to come and stay here for at least two to three days, but now they just come for a single day." The State Government recently launched a number of publicity campaigns and organised theme festivals. -ANI |
