Gwalior Central Jail celebrates Karva Chauth
by Ashok Pal

Gwalior: As a large number of women observed fast on the "Karva Chauth", the ritual of fasting without water to ensure a long and healthy life for their husbands, several male inmates at the Gwalior Central Jail felt touched. "I am feeling very happy, although we are celebrating it in the jail but this happiness is no less that I can meet my husband and pray for his well being," said Lakshmi, one of the inmates. "You obviously feel very touched to find your wife praying for your safety while you are living behind bars. I do not have really any grudges, as I was able to meet my wife. It was a nice idea and we did it even last year," said Daljeet Singh, one of the prisoners. The festival of Karwa Chauth provides an opportunity for all married women to get close to their husban and his family. Jail authorities described the opportunity provided to the inmates as something positive. "We all thought of doing something better for the prisoners and decided to celebrate this day by providing them with all the necessities. This attempt is one of its kind and we will continue to do the same in the future as well," said Mamta Gautam, Jailor, Central Jail, Gwalior.
