Vrindaban celebrates 'Radha Ashtami'

Vrindaban (UP): The holy city of Vrindaban celebrated "Radha Ashtami" the birthday of Goddess Radha on Friday, with great fervour. The city was decked up to celebrate the birthday of Goddess Radha, the consort of Lord Krishna. "Radha Ashtami" is celebrated 15 days after "Janmashtami", the birthday of Lord Krishna. "Children and adults alike are completely absorbed in the festivities. In fact we consider it a great honour to participate in the birthday celebration of the Goddesses," said Danbehari Goswami, a devotee. The festival was marked with singing, dancing and spraying of saffron colour milk on the devotees. Hundreds of thousands of devotees flocked to the city. "The celebrations at the 'Banke Behari' temple (devoted to Lord Krishna) are unique in itself. It sees a gathering of hundreds of thousands of devotees. We have come here in groups and had been preparing for a long time. Here we participate in cooking food and other activities of the temple," Bahubali Kumar, another devotee said. The tales of Lord Krishna-Radha love are depicted abound in India's architecture and paintings and their relationship is often interpreted as the quest for union with the divine.
