Hundreds of admirers of Hazarika and many locals queued on the roadside to welcome him with flowers as he arrived for the occasion. This is for the first time that Hazarika unveiled his own statue on Saturday. Biren Singha, who sculpted Hazarika's statue, said that the statue was the way of showing respect for the legend. "Here the people of Assam and the North-East are offering their respect to our legend through this statue," said Biern Singha.
