Chicken tikka masala still rules the Brit palate London:
Indian Chicken Tikka masala is still Britain's favourite ethnic dish
followed by Chinese cuisine. Of the three ethnic foods loved by Britons,
Indian including vindaloo, naan bread and tikka masala is number one,
with 44 per cent of the market. Chinese dishes make up 31 per cent and
Mexican 25. However Mexican food is now fast finding favour with the Brits
and if the trend continues then it will overtake Chinese food to become
the nation's second favourite ethnic dish after Indian. Sales of spicy
goods from the Central American country, which also include tortillas,
refried beans, fajitas, chilli con carne and quesadillas, shot up 10 per
cent in the last year. While oriental food such as sweet-and-sour sauce,
spring rolls and prawn crackers fell by one per cent, according to market
analysts TNS. "If the current trend continues, Mexican food will have
overtaken Chinese as the nation's second favourite ethnic food by 2007,"
market analyst Rachel Argyle was quoted by the Mirror, as saying.
