Manoj M Shyamalan's mystical thrillers
have set a new Hollywood trend.
After his Sixth Sense and
Unbreakable now comes Signs,
another movie around a supernatural
phenomenon. Signs is set
in Pennsylvania.

Mysterious crop circles appear
on the farm f Graham Hess (Mel
Gibson) and his family. His brother
alongwith Graham's son Morgan
tries all the tricks to solve
the mystery but it gets thicker
by the day. The phenomenon is
a common occurrence in England.
Some believe that the signs are
from outer space. Colin Andrews,
who was the scientific adviser
for Signs, has looked into over
ten thousand cases of reported
crop circles, most of which were
hoaxes. For him, a small percentage
of all reported cases eluded any
scientific reasoning, deepening
the mystery.
Hess,
who is no more a believer in religion
because of his wife's untimely
death, passes through a period
of another agony after sighting
the apparitions. Shyamalan takes
the story successfully forward
with suspense after suspense.
Sets are well-synchronised in
conventional style to create the
high tension and horror of a powerful
thriller that reaches an unblemished
climax. Unlike in the two previous
films, in Signs Shyamalan
interpolates shades of humour.
A great hit.
