SATTA
- A Girl's Journey Into Politics
Madhur
Bhandarkar's latest venture starring
Raveena Tandon
offers a different perspective.
MUMBAI:
After creating a stir and gaining
rave reviews in Bollywood through
his earlier production 'Chandni Bar',
Director Madhur Bhandarkar is back
with his second venture 'Satta' -
the game of power, starring Raveena
Tandon, Atul Kulkarni and Govind Namdev
in the main leads. Produced by Metalight
Productions, 'Satta' explores the
political journey of a young girl
Anuradha Chauhan, played by Raveena
Tandon.
Talking to ANI at the film's press
conference held in Mumbai, Raveena
expressed satisfaction over the role
played by her of a woman with middle
class roots. Raveena also applauded
Bhandarkar for bringing out the best
in her. "This was actually a role
for you and me. I play a normal girl
in the movie who gets married in a
political family and the changes that
come to her life after that. I took
it very naturally, to be very honest,"Ravina
said.
Talking about casting Raveena in the
movie, Madhur, who had earlier thought
of Tabu and Karisma to play the lead,
said Raveena fitted the character
marvelously. He said the movie belonged
to Raveena and explored the changes
induced into her life after she is
forced to stand in the elections by
her in-laws. "The story is about a
girl who is living alone in Mumbai
and she is working in the corporate
sector. She falls in love with a politician's
son and marries him. In some circumstances,
the son goes to jail. As he had to
contest the election for the MLA's
post in Azad Nagar, the family members
zero in on Raveena as the candidate
for election. So they force her to
do that. The rest is her political
journey in the movie," Madhur said.
And
making his debut in Bollywood with
'Satta' is theatre actor Sameer Dharmadhikari
who plays the role of a politician's
son whose reckless and overwhelming
life leads him behind the bars and
confines his wife( Raveena), to a
neglected and self-sacrificed housewife.
Sameer, who was an advertising professional
before entering theatres said life
in Bollywood was very different from
life in theatres. "In theatres, the
audience makes you act and in films,
the director makes you act because
in theatres the reaction and feedback
from the audience really boosts you
up and makes you act more. In a film,
the director boosts you up. That is
the main difference between the two,"
Sameer said.
While the lyrics for the movie have
been penned by Javed Akhtar, the music
for the film has been given by Raju
Singh, who had earlier given the background
score for 'Chandni Bar'. Due to be
released on February 7, 'Satta' is
a portrayal of what ails our political
system in an entertaining way. In
an industry, which boasts of more
remakes than originals, 'Satta' comes
as a fresh breath of air and promises
to be a dramatic film with dynamic
and riveting performances from its
cast which boast of many theatre personalities.
