Akshay Kumar joins 'Police Force'

Bollywood's action hero Akshay Kumar is back playing a police officer in his latest Hindi film "Police Force - An Inside Story". Based on "Carnage by Angels", a book written by a former police officer, the film also stars Kumar's former girlfriend Raveena Tandon. "Police Force" brings out the internecine quarrels within the police force in a realistic manner. Produced by Kulbhushan Gupta and directed by Dilip Shukla, the film took eight years to complete due to differences within the crew.

For 37-year old Kumar, who has a slew of movies based on the lives of police officers, including "Khakee", "Aan" and "Sipahee", says he had no problems with all the movies releasing at the same time. "This is purely coincidental that this film is releasing at about the same time as "Khakee"..."Aan" still has some time. I will not try any manipulations to delay any releases, if they are coming at the same time, it's fine with me," said Kumar at a music release function of the film in Mumbai.

The story depicts the travails of Raj Singh, a trainee police cadet who is not shown as a super-hero, and how he fights corruption within the police department. The film shot on actual locations like police training institutes and jails, has music by Anand-Milind.

Anand said the overall music of "Police Force" was peppy and groovy, considering that it was an action film. "One thing we have always concentrated on is melody. Without the rhythms, without the beats if you hear the tunes they are very melodious but obviously since this is an action-oriented film so we added a lot of grooves, very rhythmic, very peppy so that's the major difference." "Police Force" is now almost canned and the producers hope an early release will be timely as news of many a head rolling in the Mumbai police over a multibillion rupee fake stamp paper scam continues to hog headlines.
