DELHI: The wait is over for Anupam Kher's directional
debut Om Jai Jagdish as the movie hit the silver
screen today. We caught up with film buffs in Delhi
after the very first show and this is what they
had to say about the movie.
"It
is a very good movie. I was not expecting it to
be so good ... The movie creates a lot of family
values and apart from this the stars who are currently
not in the scenario have performed," said Saleem,
a cine-goer.
"The
film is very good. And particulary after interval
it is very touching and very sensational and emotional
too," said VK Jain, another cine-goer. It seems
family dramas never go off age. If treated and presented
in a different way, it always clicks. And Om Jai
Jagdish has proved it. "Anupam Kher has done really
well. Subject is good, the treatment is also good,"
said Jain.
"Anupam
Kher has given a fantastic direction. Much more
than expected," said Saleem.
Besides others, the multi-starrer movie will also
prove to be the acid test for debutant Tara Sharma.
Abhishek Bachchan, who has not even had a single
hit to his credit from the beginning of his career
might break the jinx with Om Jai Jagdish.
Om
Jai Jagdish is a story about a close-knit Indian
family where individualism is in sync with togetherness.
A story of three brothers - Om (Anil Kapoor), Jai
(Fardeen Khan) and Jagdish (Abhishek Bachchan) -
and a doting and radical mother (Waheeda Rahman),
all of whom are bonded by love and respect. But
circumstances force them to go different ways.
With Devdas running to packed houses all over India,
will Kher's film create ripples at the box-office!
It is yet to be seen.
From
Small Beginnings to Higher Calling
MUMBAI:
With Om Jai Jagdish, Anupam Kher has taken on
yet another role - that of a film director. The
story of close knit families and their domestic
problems have been explored to the hilt in television
soaps. But that has not deterred Anupam Kher who
claims that the film is about Indian values and
traditions, a common precept for most Hindi films.
But Kher promises it to be yet another extension
of his illustrious career - a yet another award-winning
performance.

We
meet a man who often foreshadowed the younger
heroes by his presence. From a villain to
a comedian, Anupam Kher has played all with
equal aplomb.
|
"Audience
are not a fool. They have lots of channel for entertainment.
I have kept their choices in mind," said Kher. The
same can be said about his performances too - real
to the minutest details.
A
small time actor from the northern city of Shimla,
Kher's career took off after joining the National
School of Drama, a premier institute in the Capital
New Delhi. From the hysterics on stage to the arclights
of cinema and innumerable awards - Kher has been
a source of inspiration for most of the aspiring
actors. He has proved his versatility time and again
- as an elderly man, as a buffoon and as a villain,
few actors have been able to switch over from role
to role as easily.
Ever since he made his debut 17 years ago with the
landmark film Saransh, Anupam Kher is almost
a permanent fixture in all the major films Bollywood
makes. Latest flick is Bend it Like Beckham,
by non-Resident Indian producer Gurinder Chadha.
Anupam Kher plays the father to a Beckham-obsessed
teenager.Though the film hardly has any big names
of Bollywood associated with it, it is already drawing
crowds. After all, with Anupam Kher around, there
would definitely be something worth watching.
