          The Film: Kids have always been fascinated by witches. They enjoy hearing and reading their stories with delight. 'Makdee' is one such film that has made the transition from stories to celluloid. Written and directed by music composer Vishal Bharadwaj, Makdee is a story of a witch, who inhabits a haunted house and turns human beings into animals if they ventured into her den.       

   The film features veteran actress Shabana Azmi playing the witch. The film also depicts twin sisters, one good and the other bad. One day, the bad girl tricks the good one into entering the witch's house. The witch turns her into a hen. Now the bad girl has to play a double role, so that no one in the village misses her sister. At the same time, she has to get her sister back from the witch.

           An interesting film, children will enjoy it in the company of their parents. Although sounding like Harry Potter, Makdee does resolve the supernatural puzzle in the end. Completed in a record 24 days, it was extensively shot in Goa and Alibaugh. The lyrics has been penned by Gulzar. 'Will Makdi be able to break the conventional mould of story-telling in mainstream Hindi cinema? ', let's wait and watch.
