Dil Vil Pyar Vyar Hits a Good Start

With Anant Mahadevan's debut as a director is born a new genre of Bollywood movie. He prefers to call Dil Vil Pyar Vyar "a retro musical". The film has a sound track based on Rahul Dev Burman's old hits - 14 songs in all.

Produced by Vivek Vaswani, the film has banner of success running ahead of the actual release which is still a good two weeks away. Within a week of hitting the market the album has sold almost three lakh units, say industry reports. This has naturally thrilled the director and the producers.

The reason for choosing Panchamda's music for such a unique film is the relevance of his contribution even today. And what has helped in accomplishing a perfect job is Bablu Chakraborty doing the entire remixing. Bablu is the man who used to arrange the music for RD. This has given a genuine touch to the songs used in the film.

Mahadevan has also experimented with the theme and the storyline which has three pairs of lovers. Apart from Mahadevan himself, there are Jimmy Shergil, Sanjay Suri and a line-up of new-comer heroines like Namrata Shirodkar, Sonali Kulkarni and Hrishita Bhatt. Among the supporting cast are Kiran Kumar, Asrani, Tiku Talsania, Rita Bhaduri and Gulshan Grover. Dipannita Sharma, Mini Mathur and Riya Sen make special appearances.

Surfeit of songs and music and, above all, the name of RD Burman ran the risk of the story getting drowned in the flood of tunes. But Mahadevan, aware as he was of this danger, has seen to it that such a thing does not happen. It is the music that goes to the aid of the story and not vice versa.

For the cast it has been an exciting experience. All of them, Sonali, Hrishita and above all Namrata are dreaming of achieving stardom, if the movie clicks at the box-office. They all hope the experience they had during the making of the film is passed on to their fans too.
