British Airways falls from first to tenth in airline list

London: British Airways has dropped to tenth in the world's top airline list this year. Last year, it occupied the first place, reports the Scotsman. The airline, however, was named the best in Europe and the best trans-Atlantic carrier in the 2007 awards by research company Skytrax. Based on more than 14 million interviews, the Skytrax awards allocated the airline of the year prize to Singapore Airlines. Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Atlantic took the award for best business class lounge. But UK no-frills carriers missed out on the budget airline top prizes, with the best performance coming from easyJet, which was voted the world's third best budget airline and Europe's second best. British Airway's slip down the top airline list was attributed to cancellations caused by baggage restrictions, bad weather and the airline's continuing inability to reunite passengers with their baggage. The airline is also likely to attract a huge fine following a UK- US investigation into alleged price fixing concerning fuel surcharges.
