Nervous day at IGI with two emergency landings
New
Delhi: The Indira Gandhi International Airport
(IGI) today witnessed tizzy moments, as it had to
handle two emergency landings within a span of eight
hours. Around 6:30 AM (IST), the runway of the Airport
was blocked after an Air India-349 Shanghai-Bangkok-Delhi
flight's landing gear collapsed. However, all 169
passengers disembarked safely following the plane's
emergency landing. The main runway was cleared for
the flight to land in the afternoon, but soon another
Air India flight 736 from Dubai to Delhi informed
the air traffic control about a hydraulic problem
in the aircraft. The Dubai flight landed safely later,
and the aircraft has been taken to a remote bay for
repairs after the passengers de-planed. "We had reached
Delhi by 5.30 am but when they tried to land, they
couldn't. Later we were told that there was some technical
problem. We were told about emergency landing measures.
Everyone started worrying," said a passenger.
