Patel lays stone for Jaipur airport's new terminal
Jaipur:
Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel laid down
the foundation stone of a new International Terminal
Building at Jaipur's Sanganer Airport here on Friday.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has now taken
up construction of the new building to cater to 250
inbound and 250 outbound passengers at a total cost
of Rs. 95 crore. The international terminal building
will be based on the latest technology of using glass
and steel structure to match international standard
of other world class airports. The centrally air-conditioned
terminal building will have 14 check- in-counters,
10 customs counters and three security check-in- counters
in addition to 12 numbers of immigration counters.
The other facilities include escalators, passenger
lifts, PA System, on-line baggage handling, CCTV,
Aerobridges. Jaipur Airport being the alternate airport
to Delhi during foggy winter season to meet the growing
traffic demands of both domestic as well as international
passengers, AAI plans to construct a new apron for
3 code-E, 3 code-D and 4 code-C type of aircraft with
link taxi for international flights. A parallel taxi
track connecting the new apron with the runway is
planned to be executed in Phase-II. Under the Phase-I
programme, the apron will be connected with the runway
near the old dumbbell by constructing a parallel taxi
track of 550 metres with the available land and it
will be extended further up to the beginning of the
runway after completion of land acquisition from the
Government. There is also a proposal to construct
a new integrated cargo complex to meet the growing
requirement for cargo handling.
The
airport is currently equipped with latest state-of-the-art
communication navigational aids, including visual
aids on runway- 09 and precision approach lights on
runway 27 for smooth landing and take off. During
the year 2005-2006, Jaipur Airport has handled 52389
international passengers. The terminal will caters
to an annual traffic of 2.4 lakh passengers corresponding
to the demand projection up to the year 2020-2021.
The foundation laying ceremony was a well-attended
function where Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara
Raje was the Chief Guest. Among other present on the
occasion were Minister of Mines Sis Ram Ola; Minister
of State for Environment & Forests Namo Narain Meena;
Education Minister, Govt. of Rajasthan, Ganshyam Das
Tiwari; Leader of Opposition, Vidhan Sabha, Rajasthan,
Ram Narain Choudhry; President, Pradesh Congress Committee,
Rajasthan, BD Kalla; Ram Das Agarwal and KL Balimiki,
and Girdhari Lal Bhargava, Members of Parliament.
