'Humiliated' overweight Frenchman sues airline

London: A bulky man, who travelled on Air France, has sued the airline for 5000 pounds after being "humiliated" by its staff who reportedly weighed him, measured his waist and charged him for two seats. French writer Jean-Jacques Jauffret (41) paid an extra 400 pounds to fly home from New Delhi, India. He told a France court that he felt humiliated on being asked to be weighed before being allowed to travel by the airline: "I felt ashamed and belittled when check-in workers asked me to step out of the queue to be weighed," The Sun quoted him as saying. But the airline justified the decision to charge him for two seats. "This man can barely balance on his chair in this courtroom, so how is he expected to squash into a small single seat on a plane? The plane was full and it would not have been fair on other passengers to allow him to take a second seat for free," said Air France lawyer Fernand Garnault.
