Air Arabia starts Sharjah-Nagpur international
flight
Nagpur:
Nagpur's Sonegaon airport got an international
status today with the commencement of the first direct
regular flight to Sharjah, courtesy Air Arabia. The
UAE based carrier introduced a new service on the
Sharjah- Nagpur-Sharjah route-the first international
flight from Nagpur. Presently Air Arabia will operate
the flight thrice a week on Monday, Thursday and Saturday.
The city airport was also named 'Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar
International Airport' with Union Agriculture Minister
Sharad Pawar unveiling a plaque to mark the formal
renaming. The Central Government had granted an international
status to the Nagpur airport on April 8, 2005 and
had decided to rename it after Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said that
the Centre has more such plans for opening International
Airports in other cities as well. "In the coming days
we will have International Airports for other cities
too. It is going to be like a new revolution and we
are doing it for the development of our nation. The
facility will not just be for the rich, famous and
VIPs but also for commoners," says Patel. Besides
Patel and Pawar, Union Minister of State for Non-
Conventional Energy Resources Vilas Muttemwar and
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister RR Patil also attended
the function. Air Arabia of United Arab Emirates (UAE)
will operate the flight thrice-a-week on Monday, Thursday
and Saturday.
