Mumbai
airport back to normal
Mumbai:
The Mumbai airport on Thursday resumed working
to its full strength following the removal from soft
ground of Air Sahara's Boeing 737 early this morning.
The Air Sahara aircraft, the wheels of which were
stuck on the soft ground, was taken to a parking area
in the airport. The main runway has now been made
serviceable and available for flight operations. All
outbound and inbound flights of most of the airlines
providing their services here had to be delayed since
Sunday evening when Air Sahara's Kolkata-Mumbai Boeing
737 missed touchdown by several metres while landing,
overshot the main runway and bogged down in the soft
ground ahead. The mains runway has been unserviceable
since then. Almost all flights were delayed for considerable
periods during the last four days. The Director General
of Civil Aviation is probing the incident that caused
serious inconvenience to thousands of passengers in
the last four days. Mumbai, the economic capital of
India, is one of the busiest airports in the region
and the disruption of air traffic, is feared to have
caused considerable damage to the trading community.
