October 9, 2012 | Tyson lodges another entry visa application to visit New Zealand | Sydney: Boxing legend Mike Tyson has reportedly lodged another application for getting an entry-visa to visit New Zealand. Last month, Tyson had been granted a special visitor's visa, so as to address a motivational speaking event in Auckland in November. However, Kiwi authorities revoked his visa within days of issuing it because of the former heavyweight-boxing champion's criminal record. Tyson was jailed for 3 years after being convicted of raping a 18-year-old woman, which would normally bar him from entering New Zealand , and was therefore given a special visa because he had the backing of a children's charity. However, that charity
withdrew its support, saying the letter was written by a volunteer trustee, following which Associate Immigration of New Zealand Minister Kate Wilkinson cancelled the visa. Wilkinson's office confirmed on Tuesday a fresh application had been lodged by Tyson's legal representative. "It is in the minister's office but she hasn't seen it yet," News.com.au quoted a spokeswoman, as saying. Earlier, Tyson had criticized the New Zealand authorities for banning him from entering the country, saying it had been an 'unfair fight'. "I just wanted to go down there and just have a show. Unfortunately that had to happen - it's one of those things in life that happens," he had said. |
