May 17, 2012 | Jamshedpur zoo makes cooling arrangements for animals | Jamshedpur:
Zoo authorities at the Tata Steel Zoological Park here are busy making cooling
arrangements to protect animals from
the scorching heat. Effective cooling systems have been installed and the caretakers
splash water at regular intervals in the enclosures to protect the animals from
heat. Bipul Chakraborty, the director of the zoo, said all necessary measures
have been initiated to protect the animals. "We have taken all necessary measures
for the welfare of the animals. We have installed coolers, have spread fodder
and the cage and the mattresses are made up of bamboo so that animals can be saved
from heat," he said. Authorities are also taking special care of the diet of the
inmates. The animals are periodically fed them medicines and glucose to avoid
dehydration. "We have made arrangements of water especially in the tiger enclosure.
We regularly bathe them in morning and in the evening. We also give them some
anti stress medicines to protect them from heat strokes. Exhaust fans, water coolers
in the cages of lion, tiger, leopard and black beers have been installed," said
Manik Palit, a doctor. Many pools are made inside the enclosures to ensure sufficient
water for the animals. Although there was a dip in mercury in the northern and
eastern states last month, heat wave has gripped most parts of the country.
