Kenyan woman raped in Rishikesh by man claiming as tourist guide

RISHIKESH: A Kenyan woman, 26, was sexually assaulted by a man who met her
at a yoga camp in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, according to a late report. The accused,
Hemant Thaplyal, 31, has been arrested after the woman lodged a complaint.
The incident happened last week. The victim was befirended by the accused at
the yoga centre and was offered help to tour the places around. He claimed he
was a tourist guide and took her around on his two-wheeler and assaulted her
at an isolated place, it was reported.
The Muni-ki-Reti police managed to identify the accused from the CCTV footage
of the yoga centre. Further investigation in the case is going on.
The incident, as per the complaint, happened on March 8 at Neer Guddu Waterfalls
but the complaint was lodged at the Muni-ki-Reti police station on Sunday. The
accused was produced in the court on Monday and sent to custody on Monday. The
victim was taken to a hospital for medical examination.
