SHIMLA (Himachal Pradesh): An armyman was killed and five other soldiers were
buried under snow in an avalanche in Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in Namgya region of Kinnaur in the morning. About 250
soldiers have been deployed for rescue operations.
Heavy snow and rain are continuing. According to reports, the region is under
snow. Sixteen soldiers were patrolling the border area in Shipki La Sector along
the Indo-China border when the glacier slided. Several soldiers were rescued.
Five are still buried under the snow. Search is on. The temperature is minus
15 degrees C.
The Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO)
have also joined the rescue operations.
Another reports said the mishap took place when the 16 Army men were engaged
in water supply works for the Army unit statione there.
Heavy rain and snowfall have paralysed life in Shimla district. Road traffic
has been dislocated. The temperature has plummeted.
The Capital Shimla recorded minus 3.8 degree C temperature, news agencies reported.
Kufri, Chharabra, Keylong, Kalpa have been affected badly.
