NEW DELHI: A woman from Turkmenistan travelling with two other women from her
country in an autorickshaw was killed when a speeding luxury sedan hit their
vehicle in central Delhi on Monday.
The two other women and the auto driver were also seriously injured. All the
four were taken to a nearby hospital where Gulshat Alijanova succumbed to her
injuries.
The three Turkmenistan women travellers have been identified as Gulshat Alijanova
(51), Alma Gul Atayeba (33) and Gulia Yyam (55). The auto driver has been identified as Raghubir Singh hailing from Sangam Vihar in south delhi.
After hitting the autorickshaw, the car rammed a lamp-post and the front portion
was smashed.
The accident took place in Vinay Marg in the high-security Chanakyapuri of
central Delhi.
The Bentley SUV driver, Asees Singh Chadha, a nephew of the late liquor baron
Ponty Chadha, was caught by passers-by and handed over to the police.
Asees Chadha, who was at the wheel, has been booked for causing death due to
rash driving.
Police said the Bentley car bore registration number DL8CCG 0013 and the auto
had the number DL1R U9636. According to a news agency report, the car was being
escorted by a Punjab police vehicle and two police officials were inside the
vehicle at the time of the accident.
Ponty Chadha was killed in 2012 in a shootout involving his own brother and
their bodyguards.
