Firefighting choppers collide mid-air in Greece: Danish pilot, Greek killed
Two Bell helicopters colliding mid-air while firefighting in Greece—one crashes, other makes emergency landing. The overflying chopper is seen in video coming closer and striking the rotor blades of the other aircraft. 'Wings' clipped, the lower flying chopper crashes, killing its crew on the spot.
The crew of the second helicopter, a British pilot and a Greek coordinator, survived with minor injuries as they could make an emergency landing.
ATHENS (Greece), Aug 3: Two helicopters engaged in pouring water to put out
raging wildfires west of Athens in Greece collided mid-air on Sunday causing
the death of two crew of one of the choppers that crashed and injuries to two
crew of the second helicopter that subsequently made an emergency landing. ▶ Watch Video: The mid-air collision
Videos show the two firefighting helicopters flying close to each other before
colliding in mid-air.
The collision took place in the Psatha coastal area 50 km west of Athens. The
two crew members killed were a Danish pilot and a Greek fire service liaison
officer.
The crew of the second helicopter, a British pilot and a Greek coordinator,
survived with minor injuries as they made an emergency landing.
Both choppers were Bell.
The chopper crash raises the firefighters' toll to five. Around 450 firefighters
were deployed on Sunday across the two wildfire zones. Earlier three ground
workers died fighting the spreading wldfires on Crete and the Peloponnese.
Severe drought and extreme weather conditions fan wildfires in several parts
of Europe.
Greece: Firefighters are struggling against shifting winds. Emergency
personnel are trying to stop fires from reaching Megara, a coastal town of 30,000
residents. The blaze already crossed a mountain and ignited ordnance at a military
firing range.
France: Major fires are showing signs of stabilization but remain highly
volatile. A massive "megafire" scar spanning 420 square km in southwestern France
has forced the evacuation of over 224,000 people.
Spain: Blazes that have scorched tens of thousands of hectares are mostly
under control. Firefighters are now addressing isolated flare-ups. Residents
evacuated from the western province of Caceres have been allowed to return home.
Meanwhile, the unrelenting heat and lack of rain have caused the Danube river
to drop to record-low levels, forcing Hungary to shut down its primary nuclear
power plant due to cooling water shortages and severely reducing hydroelectric
output in Serbia.
The State will have a two-language formula for the schools—Tamil and English.

Is it possible that the pilot just missed to put the switch to RUN while on the runway and the aircraft, a good one, was running on residual fuel? Which it can do for 20 to 40 seconds. The Air India flight stalled after 32 seconds of passing the Go/NoGo point.

PROGNOSIS: It looks a Real New Trump is emerging - courageous, balanced, powerful and disinterested. Determined to save his country from the cliff, he has done quite a few draconian things that will reduce the burden of debts of the Federal entity, like the golden handshake, stopping senseless funding, pulling out of a worthless WHO. Shutting the Education Department is another. On the other hand, running it is also not the Centre's job either (We will convincingly elaborate it in the next chapter).
In India the scene is just the opposite. Centralisation is the core agenda and identity of the ruling dispensation without which it has no existence, or in other words, it exists for that set of schemes only. A realisation of this never dawned upon any Opposition party in 2014 or any time thereafter, what to talk of being able to see it coming 70 years ago!
