Kapil Sibal drops Rs 1 cr in Cockroach party's 'hundi' for legal aid to fight police cases

LET'S TALK: Sibal's gesture is bound to prompt more such support leading to a confident CJP flexing its muscles. Initiated by Sibal, the Government will think twice before pouncing on other donors now prompted to give to the cockroaches. Furthermore, even if protests snowball over emerging new demands and if it happens, as long as we haven't discovered an alternative new system of government, the cycle will continue in zero-sum rotation like in Bangladesh or Nepal. And we will be where we were.
NEW DELHI, Jul 28 (INS): Senior Supreme Court advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil
Sibal on Monday contributed Rs 1 cr to a legal aid fund set up by the Cockroach
Janata Party (CJP) whose successful nationwide protests over the Central Government's
bungling of the NEET-UG 2026 medical entrance test led to the resignation of
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and spawned many more demands. ▶ Watch Video: Sibal speaks
The funding is intended to provide legal assistance to students and peaceful
protesters who are facing police cases and FIRs following recent nationwide
NEET exam paper leak agitations.
He aslo appealed to the legal fraternity to extend legal aid to the students
facing criminal proceedings over protests.
The gesture is for tracking legal cases filed by different State Governments
against demonstrators and connecting affected students with professional legal
help.
The CJP plans to launch a dedicated web platform to document the details of
targeted students and register advocates who wish to offer pro bono or paid
legal assistance.
Alongside CJP spokesperson Saurav Das, Sibal urged lawyers and citizens across
India to contribute to this defence fund to combat the alleged misuse of law
against peaceful dissent.

Sibal has publicly called for the withdrawal of existing FIRs and asserted
that students participating in peaceful protests in States like Bihar, Assam,
West Bengal and Maharashtra should not face criminal action.
He said: "I have said wherever peaceful protests have taken place in India,
be it Bihar, Assam, Bengal, or Maharashtra, and where students or protestors
have been targeted, we have decided to create a mechanism to track the legal
cases lodged by the governments so that our lawyers can provide legal aid. We
have demanded that there shouldn't be any FIRs, and if there have been, they
should be withdrawn. From my side, I have contributed Rs. 1 crore and I urge
the advocates throughout India to extend their help in contributing to this
fund so that we can help those affected. Our lawyers are standing up for those
who have been affected by the misuse of law."
Saurav Das said criminal cases are being lodged against students across the
country despite the assurance given by the Government.
The CJP has officially called off its nationwide agitation after achieving
a historic concession from the Central Government. Driven by millions of Gen
Z youth, the satirical movement successfully forced the resignation of the Union
Education Minister over irregularities in the 2026 NEET medical entrance exam
and public board testing. CJP called off the protest on July 25 after Dharmendra
Pradhan resigned.
How the protests began
The story: Founded in May 2026 by Abhijeet Dipke after oral remarks
by the Chief Justice of India allegedly compared unemployed youth and activists
to "cockroaches", the group's satirical Instagram account exploded to over 22
million followers, eclipsing the digital reach of mainstream political parties.
Initial protests began peacefully at New Delhi's Jantar Mantar in June. The
movement reached its flashpoint on July 20, when thousands of students defied
a police ban to march directly toward Parliament House, encountering a heavy-handed
police crackdown involving batons and tear gas and other means like pellet guns.
The subsequent police action and the detention of activist Sonam Wangchuk backfired,
triggering massive solidarity rallies from Mumbai to Itanagar.
Losing control of the political narrative, the ruling administration invited
CJP negotiators like Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka for high-level talks.
Pradhan resigned conceding their main demand and the Government also formally
accepted the group's other key terms, including public examination and system
reforms and withdrawal of police cases against the protesters.
The State will have a two-language formula for the schools—Tamil and English.
Goodbye to the fraud called entrance exams: No competitive entrance exam for higher education - Admissions will be based on Class 11 and 12 marks. (See footnote)
The SEP and the State's determination to bring education back to the State
List constitute a structured resistance to the Centre’s ultimate designs for centralisation of governance.
The preliminary probe report claims both the fuel control switches were in ‘CUT OFF’ mode moments after lift-off (FADEC may be set to register like that). PROGNOSIS: It looks a Real New Trump is emerging - courageous, balanced, powerful and disinterested. Determined to save his country from the cliff, he has done quite a few draconian things that will reduce the burden of debts of the Federal entity, like the golden handshake, stopping senseless funding, pulling out of a worthless WHO. Shutting the Education Department is another. On the other hand, running it is also not the Centre's job either (We will convincingly elaborate it in the next chapter).
In India the scene is just the opposite. Centralisation is the core agenda and identity of the ruling dispensation without which it has no existence, or in other words, it exists for that set of schemes only. A realisation of this never dawned upon any Opposition party in 2014 or any time thereafter, what to talk of being able to see it coming 70 years ago! The consequence of all this violation of basic natural law of the universe we cannot predict.
