VIJAYAWADA, Sept 9: Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam chief N Chandrababu Naidu was arrested by the AP Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the Rs 371 cr skill development scam early morning on Saturday.

After the arrest, Naidu was taken to a hospital for medical examination. He was arrested from Nandyal, where he has been staying. Party workers resisted the arrest but in vain.

The sleuths have also arrested TDP MLA and former minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and his son in connection with the skill development scam.

The alleged scam of 371 cr in the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation occurred during Naidu's tenure as Chief Minister. The Corporation was established during the TDP rule to provide skill training to youngsters.

The arrest followed a high drama after midnight.

"It is to inform you that you have been arrested at 6 am at RK Function Hall, Gnanapuram, H/o Moolasagaram, Nandyala town and it is a non- bailable offence." the arrest warrant stated.

"For the past 45 years, I have selflessly served Telugu people. I am prepared to sacrifice my life to safeguard the interests of Telugu people. No force on earth can stop me from serving Telugu people, my #AndhraPradesh and my motherland," Naidu's post read.

In 2014 after coming to power he proposed to set up skill centres throughout the State to provide training to unemployed youth. The Government entered into a MoU with Siemens India to set up the centres. The cost of the project was Rs 3,356 cr, out of which the Government was to provide 10 per cent as a grant-in-aid. Next year he inaugurated 17 centres.

The allegation is that Rs 241 cr was allegedly diverted to five shell companies while Rs 130 crore was spent on the project. The companies were called Allied Computers, Skillers India Pvt Ltd, Knowledge Podium, Cadence Partners, and ETA Greens. The money was allegedly transferred to them on fake invoices. No actual delivery was made.
