LEH (Ladakh), Aug 19: Nine soldiers were killed when an army truck fell into a gorge in Ladakh on Saturday evening.

The ALS (Ashok Leyland Stallion) vehicle was moving as part of a convoy from Leh to Nyoma when it veered off the road and plunged into a deep valley at 7:00 pm. The mishap took place 7 km from Kiari. The truck hit a rock before it fell.

There were 10 personnel travelling in the truck. Nine of them died and one got injured. The injured personnel has been shifted to hospital, Defence officials said. A junior commissioned officer is among the nine soldiers killed.

The soldiers belonged to 311 Medium Regiment (artillery).

There were three officers, two JCOs and 34 jawans travelling in three vehicles in the convoy that comprised a Maruti Gypsy, a truck and an ambulance.
