NEW DELHI, Aug 16: Bajrang Dal leader Bittu Bajrangi who was wanted in connection with the Haryana violence last month, was arrested on Tuesday after a dramatic chase in Faridabad. His purported videos about a Vishwa Hindu Parishad yatra in Nuh allegedly stoked the communal violence that began on July 31. He was also present at the yatra. Six people died and houses and vehicles gutted in the arson and violence that continued for several days.

He was sent to 14-day judicial custody by a court in Nuh on Thursday.

At least 15-20 police officials were involved in the operation to arrest him on Tuesday. He was arrested from Faridabad where he was travelling on foot towards his house.

Videos show police officials in plain clothes arresting Bittu Bajrangi in a dramatic chase in the lanes of Faridabad city in Haryana.

Cow vigilante Bittu Bajrangi, 45, was questioned in connection with a fresh FIR registered against him at Nuh's Sadar police station.

The FIR was registered against Bittu Bajrangi under Indian Penal Code sections 148 (riots), 149 (unlawful assembly), 323 (causing hurt), 353, 186 (obstructing a public servant from discharging duty), 395, 397 (armed robbery), and 506 (criminal intimidation) and provisions of the Arms Act, police said.

The Bajrang Dal leader, also called Rajkumar, was earlier accused of posting inflammatory remarks on social media. Six people, including two home guards and a cleric, had died in the recent clashes that erupted in Nuh over an attempt to stop a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession and spread to Gurugram.

A fruit and vegetables trader at the Gazipur market and in Faridabad, Bittu Bajrangi heads the cow vigilante group, Faridabad Gau Raksha Bajrang Force.

Bittu Bajrangi was arrested earlier on August 4, and was out on bail. He was accused of making inflammatory speeches and brandishing weapons in public at Nuh. This time he was arrested on a fresh FIR on attack on a police team in Nuh.

Bittu Bajrangi is an aide of wanted Bajrang Dal leader Monu Manesar, whose inflammatory videos also contributed to the violence in Nuh. Manesar, who is at large, is wanted in the killing of two Muslim men earlier this year in the name of cow vigilantism.
