A rerun of Delhi episode in K'taka: 4th class student thrown off 1st floor, dies
BENGALURU, Dec 20: A Class 4 student Bharat Baraker died after being assaulted
and thrown off the first floor classroom of a Government school in Karnataka’s
Gadag district by his teacher on Monday morning, in what looked like a rerun
of another horrendous incident in a Delhi school. The boy succumbed to his injuries
at KIMS hospital.
The teacher Muthappa Yellapa, 33, thrashed the boy's mother Gita Baraker, 35,
also, when she tried to stop him from beating up her son. Gita, also a teacher
at the school, has been hospitalised at KIMS Hospital. The Adarsh Primary School
is situated in Hagli village in Naragund taluk.
Another teacher, Shivanand Patil, also suffered minor injuries and has been
admitted to a local hospital.
Muthappa is absconding. An FIR has been registered under Section 302 (murder)
of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). “It is clear how the incident occurred but we
don’t know the motive behind it," police said.
The 9-year old student was beaten with an iron rod before being thrown down.
In the Delhi incident on December 16, the Class 5 student, Vandana, was thrown
down from the first floor classroom. The girl is undergoing treatment at Hindurao
hospital. The teacher, Geeta Deshwal has been detained by the police.
