UDAIPUR, Nov 13: A major train accident was averted when people living in nearby areas detected a crack on a rail on Odha bridge near Kewda Ki Naal, 35 km from Udaipur, on the newly opened Udaipur-Asarva (Ahmedabad) line after they heard a huge explosion and alerted the railways early Sunday before any train arrived. The blast occurred on Odha railway bridge.
Detonators and gunpowder and other bomb-making materials have been recovered from
the spot. The Udaipur Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) is investigating and all trains
on the route have been cancelled.
Train No.19704 Asarva-Udaipur City will run till Dungarpur station and the
return train number 19703 Udaipur City-Asarva is also terminated ahead of Dungarpur
station.
Railway officials said that information about the explosion and the consequent
rail damage was received at 8 am on Sunday.
Restoration work on the damaged rail track has begun.
The Asarva-Udaipur City Intercity Express train service on the new
railway line was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Asarva
Railway Station located in Ahmedabad on October 31.
Udaipur City-Asarva Intercity Express Train No 19703 departs Udaipur City at 5
pm and arrives at Asarva at 11 pm. Asarva-Udaipur City Intercity Express Train
No 19704 departs Asarva at 6:30 am and arrives at Udaipur City at 12:30 pm. It is a daily service.
