NEW DELHI, Nov 7: India's top ranking airline Indigo has grounded 30 aircraft
due to supply chain disruptions leading to maintenance and engine-related issues.
The airline said the supplies shortage is a global problem. It plans wet leasing of aircraft to mitigate the disruptions.
Interglobe Aviation Ltd, the operator of the airline, said the planes grounded
constitute 10% of its fleet. It said, "While it is our immediate priority to
deploy adequate capacity to serve our customers, we are actively engaged with
our OEM (original equipment manufacturer) partners to work on mitigation measures
that should ensure the continuity of our network and operations."
The airline had a fleet of 279 aircraft and has a domestic market share of
57 per cent. Hit by higher fuel prices, the airline has posted loss for the
second quarter. However, it is optimistic about profit in the current quarter.
The loss in September quarter was Rs 1,583.34 cr. The company said, "We are
bullish on the market opportunities and will continue to add flights in existing
and new markets."
Currently, more than 75 planes of domestic airlines are grounded due to maintenance
and engine-related issues.
