LUCKNOW, Oct 17: The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission
(UPSSSC) conducted the Uttar Pradesh Preliminary Eligibility Test (UP PET) for
various posts in the State Government on October 15 and 16 at various centres
throughout the State.
Examinees were allotted non-resident district centres as a step to prevent
malpractices. That is, under the new system, an examinee is allotted a centre
in a district other than the one he/she belongs to. So a staggering 37,58,209
candidates were travelling a long haul across 75 districts in the State two
nights standing and having nowhere to stay. 25.11 lakh candidates appeared while
12.46 lakh (around 33%) could not make it. There were 1,899 centres.
Railway stations and bus stops witnessed huge, frightful crowds as lakhs of
candidates were moving to other districts long way off necessitating a night's
journey and stay, and as they returned to their home district.
There were stampede like situation at railway stations and even several exam
centres. Reacting to the development, the Opposition sought to expose the Government's
job scheme as a vote bank scheme, and inflicting untold sufferings on them.
Pitiful videos showing huge rush of students at the Kanpur Central, Ghazipur
and Sitapur Junction trying to board the train to go home had gone viral on
social media.
A staggering 37,58,209 candidates had registered for the exam which was held
in two shifts: 10 am to 12 pm and 3 pm to 5 pm, both days.
PET is being conducted for the recruitment of Group B and Group C posts of
the Government of Uttar Pradesh for 2022-23.
Help desks were set up at various railway stations and bus depots across the
State to assist candidates find their respective centres. Apart from help desks,
police personnel and administrative authorities were also stationed at the help
desks.
TAILPIECE: Not just UP, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Punjab, Telangana
and even Delhi have promulgated their intention to recruit lakhs of people or
regularise (permanent) contract employees (entailing a dozen allowances and
a fat pension till death of self and spouse), adding to the legions of clerks
without work (unproductive) in the name of creating jobs! Who will foot the
bill for eternity? Obviously, the rest of India, at a time when already 80 crore
Indians are eating Modi's rice!
