NEW DELHI, Oct 12: The international police organisation, Interpol has rejected
India's request to issue a red corner notice against Khalistan separatist leader
Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on terror charges.
Interpol stated that India had not provided enough evidence to support its
case against the Canada-based founder of pro-Khalistan organisation Sikhs for
Justice (SFJ).
It said not enough information on his terror activities has been provided to
substantiate the charge but the Government of India said it will pursue the
matter and that he was wanted under the Indian law. This is the second time
the request has been turned down.
Pannun's actions are political in nature and political activities do not come
under the purview of its rules and framework, it was stated. The Article 3 of
the Interpol Constitution forbids intervention in activities of any political,
military, religious or racial character.
Therefore, it will again be taken up by India as relating to an individual
criminal. Several cases have been filed against Pannun who has been declared
as an "individual terrorist."
The SFJ was banned by India in 2019 as an unlawful association for five years.
Interpol general assembly is meeting later this month, hosted by India.
