NEW DELHI, Sept 29: Billionaire Mukesh Ambani has been given Z+ security.
The Home Ministry on Thursday upgraded industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s security
to the Z+ category from Z after intelligence inputs confirmed that the Ambanis
faced threats.
A review of perceived threat perception to him by Central intelligence and
security agencies was made, official sources said on Thursday.
The top 'Z+' security cover will be on a "payment basis".
Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited,
was earlier accorded ‘Z category’ security of CRPF commandos in 2013.
Now he wiill be provided security by a total of 40-50 commandos. His wife
Nita Ambani has a lower category of 'Y' security cover. Following a bomb scare
at Antilia, Mukesh Ambani's residence in Mumbai, last year, his security has
been under review.
A Scorpio with 20 gelatin sticks was found parked near Antilia in February
2021.
In August, threatening calls were made to Ambani and the Reliance Foundation
Hospital. Subsequently, a man was later held in Borivali West area of Mumbai
for threatening Ambanis.
The Supreme Court in 2020 had stayed the orders of the Tripura High Court on
a PIL which had challenged the grant of security cover to Ambani and his family
and allowed the Centre to continue with the security.
Meanwhile, last month, billionaire Gautam Adani was given the Z category security
comprising CRPF commandos.
