3 women of Telugu origin die in road accident in Waller near Houston

Daughters Meghana Kodali, at the reputed A&M, and Nikhila Kodali, at Bellaire High School, were also killed. Their father Dr Nagendra Srinivas Kodali is an assistant professor of anesthesiology at Baylor College of Medicine.

HOUSTON (Texas), Sept 28: Three women of Telugu origin died in a road accident in Waller near Houston on Sunday.

Bellaire (Houston) resident Vanisri Yalamanchili was reportedly bringing her daughter home from Texas A&M University in College Station (150 km north-west of Bellaire in Houston) to celebrate an Indian holiday called Dussehra when their car was T-boned in Waller County, 67 km north-west of Bellaire, on Sunday at 11 am at Kickapoo. Her younger daughter had accompanied her.

(A T-bone accident is also called a broadside collision or a side-impact collision in which the front of one vehicle strikes the side of another, forming a "T").

According to the police, Vanisri Yalamanchili, who was driving a Lexus sedan did not notice the traffic blinks at the intersection. She was at that point driving south. Vanisri Yalamanchili, 53, and Meghana Kodali, 20, of A&M, were killed on the spot. The younger daughter, Nikhila Kodali, a 16-year old Bellaire High School student, was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where she died during treatment, according to local reportage.

A Facebook post by one Sai Bollineni of TANA said Dr Nagendra Srinivas Kodali’s wife Vani and two daughters died in the accident.

According to India Herald, the girls' father Dr Nagendra Srinivas Kodali is an anesthesiologist at Texas Children's Hospital and an assistant professor of anesthesiology at Baylor College of Medicine. He is also chairman of the Teluga Association of North America (TANA).

Meghana Kodali of A&M and Nikhila Kodali were dancers

Meghana Kodali graduated Bellaire High School and was attending Texas A&M as a Brown Scholar. She worked with children with special needs as a camp counselor at Children's Association for Maximum Potential. She was also a student researcher at Texas A&M and a research assistant at Baylor College of Medicine, according to her profile online.

Nikhila Kodali was a junior at Bellaire High and served as the marketing director for a non-profit advocacy group called Opt for Action.

The two sisters were both skilled classical Indian dancers.

Another accident: 4 killed

In an earlier accident on September 18, four members of another Indian family were charred to death when their car was hit by a truck in Arizona, United States. The car went up in flames after the crash. The accident occurred on September 18. The victims were Nagarajan, his wife Vijayalakshmi Gopal and their sons Athish Nagarajan and Dhinesh Nagarajan. The family hailed from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu.
