6 Kanwariyas killed as truck hits yatris in Hathras, UP
The pilgrims were returning to Gwalior from Haridwar and the accident took
place while they were passing through Sadabad town in Hathras district of
Uttar Pradesh early Saturday morning. The deceased have been identified
as Jabar Singh, 28, Ranveer, 30, Manoj Pal, 30, Ramesh Pal, 30, Naresh
Pal, 32, and Vikas, 25. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem
examination.
AGRA, July 23: Six Kanwariyas were killed when a dumper truck hit a group of
pilgrims returning to Gwalior from Haridwar while passing through Sadabad town
in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh early on Saturday.
One injured pilgrim has been admitted to a hospital in Agra, police said. The
truck driver has been arrested. The accident occurred near Badar crossing under
Sadabad police station limits.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath offered his condolences and directed
district authorities to ensure treatment of the injured.
The Kanwariyas were returning to Gwalior from Haridwar when they were hit by
the speeding truck at around 2.15 am.
The deceased have been identified as Jabar Singh, 28, Ranveer, 30, Manoj Pal,
30, Ramesh Pal, 30, Naresh Pal, 32, and Vikas, 25. The relatives of the deceased
have been informed and the bodies sent for post-mortem examination.
On July 18, several Roadways buses were vandalised after two Kanwariyas reportedly
died in an accident in UP's Amroha. A Roadways bus reportedly had hit their
bike. Angry kanwariyas vandalised Roadways buses.
'Kanwar Yatra' is an annual pilgrimage, a form of worshipping Lord Shiva. The
yatris fetch Ganga water from Haridwar, Gaumukh, Gangotri and other holy places
and offer at Shiva temples in their native places.
