8 killed in mass shootings in Chicago; 3 security men killed in Kentucky

CHICAGO, July 3: At least eight people have been killed and 21 others wounded in mass shootings across Chicago during the weekend while three police officers were shot dead by an accused in Kentucky.

A man, 35, was fatally shot while riding inside a vehicle early Sunday in Brighton Park on the Southwest Side.

A 17-year-old girl was among two people shot and wounded early Sunday in Bronzeville on the South Side. The teen and a woman were standing in South Langley Avenue about 12:45 am when someone opened fire.

Saturday night a man, 30, was shot to death in South Chicago on the Far South Side. He died in University of Chicago Medical Center.

Two people were killed and three others wounded in a mass shooting outside a fire station in Chicago on Friday. The five people were leaving their work place at 1:45 am when they were seen engaged in arguments with a stranger who shot at them. Two of them died of wounds at Stroger Hospital. On of the dead was identified as Bates, 29.

A woman was killed and a man and another woman were wounded in a shootout in Chinatown on Friday. The injured man and another man were shooting at each other in South Wentworth Avenue about 10:50 pm when gunfire struck the man and two other women. Some Chinatown residents called for the closure of karaoke bar.

A 17-year-old girl, a Curie High School student, Tierra Franklin was fatally shot Friday afternoon in Little Village in South Lawndale just after 3 pm. Tierra Franklin was near the parking lot of a work place at South Kolin Avenuz when a man on a bicycle approached her and opened fire. She died at St. Anthony Hospital.

A 26-year-old was in South Wolcott Avenue when someone approached him and opened fire 5:45 pm Friday. He died at the the University of Chicago Medical Center.

A little earlier Keishone Roberts, 29, was in West Garfield Park when someone approached him and opened fire at 5 pm. He died in o Stroger Hospital.

A 15-year old boy was shot at in a drive-by in Englewood on the South Side at 2:25 am.

In yet another mass shooting of the day in the city, four people were wounded in West Garfield Park, just after 9 pm. One of the injured was a woman.

At least nine others were struck by gunfire in Chicago Friday.

A 14-year-old boy was among four people killed by gunfire in Chicago Thursday, and a 13-year-old boy was among 12 others wounded.

Last weekend, six people were killed and at least 27 others were wounded in Chicago.

Kentucky shootings

Meanwhile, in Kentucky, three police officers have been shot dead while trying to serve a warrant on a man accused of domestic violence. Police took the 49-year-old suspect into custody. They were shot as they arrived at his home late Thursday. The officers shot dead were Capt Ralph Frasure, Deputy William Petry and dog handler Jacob Chaffins. K9 Drago, one of the dogs that Chaffins handled, also died.
