CHANDIGARH, March 20: Kabaddi player Sandeep Singh's murder has been solved
with the arrest of four persons. The four persons arrested included a gangster
from UP. The international kabaddi player was shot dead early last week in Jalandhar
during a tournament. The police are also on the lookout for three non-resident
Indians who they suspected to be conspirators in the crime.
Sandeep,40, one of the best international kabaddi players, was shot multiple
times by four assailants as he stepped out of the tournament ground in Mallian
Khurd village in Jalandhar, on Monday evening. The assailants fled in their
car.
The four arrested have been identified as Fateh Singh alias Yuvraj, a resident
of Sangrur; Kaushal Chaudhary of Naharpur Roopa in Gurugram; Amit Dagar of village
Maheshpur Palvan in Haryana; Simranjeet Singh alias Jujhar Singh alias gangster
of village Madhopur Pilibhit, UP.
"In less than a week after International Kabaddi Player Sandeep Singh alias
Sandeep Nangal Ambia was killed, Punjab Police have solved the murder case with
the arrest of four accused involved in conspiring crime. Three foreign- based
persons identified as main conspirators were also booked," the Punjab police
tweeted. Police said federation rivalries led to the murder.
The three non-resident Indians were identified as Snover Dhillon, a native
of Amritsar and currently residing in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, and is a producer
and director at Canadian Sath TV and Radio Show; Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukha
Duneke alias Sukh Singh, a native of village Duneke, Moga and residing in Canada
for last few years; Jagjit Singh alias Gandhi, a native of Dehlon, Ludhiana,
and residing in Malaysia.
Sandeep, who was president of several tournaments like Major League Kabaddi
Federation, was visiting India to host kabaddi events. Hailing from Nangal Ambian
village, he was living in England and is survived by his wife and two sons.
