JABALPUR (Madhya Pradesh), March 13: An Alliance Air aircraft overshot the
runway at the Jabalpur airport on Saturday afternoon. The ATR-72 Flight 9I617
with 55 passengers had taken off from Delhi at 11:32 am. The Directorate General
of Civil Aviation is investigating the incident. Nobody was injured in the mishap.
The aircraft had gone beyond the runway by 10 metres.
"We are grateful that all passengers and crew onboard the flight are are safe.
Our first priority is to evacuate passengers without compromising their safety.
While we follow laid down down policies / procedures as per the regulatory authorities
and have strict checks in place – both pre and post-flight operations in order
to ensure complete safety of our passengers and crew passengers and crew, we
regret the unfortunate incident," a statement by the airline said.
"We have taken strict note of the incident and the cockpit crew have been de-
roastered. A thorough investigation has been initiated. The findings of the
same shall be shared with the regulatory authorities and we shall ensure that
all required corrective actions are put in place," the statement said.
Alliance Air was founded in 1996 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Indian Airlines
which was later merged with Air India. After Air India's sale to Tatas, it remains
as a separate entity with the Government under the Air India Assets Holding
ltd. It mainly operates on domestic routes as part of the Government's Regional
Connectivity Scheme.
