NEW DELHI, Nov 26: Delhi's second driverless Metro train operation was inaugurated
on the Pink Line on Thursday. Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep
Singh Puri and Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot flagged off the 'driverless
train' on the 57-km Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar Pink Line via video.
"In a proud moment for people of Delhi & India’s technological prowess in urban
connectivity, I was very happy to inaugurate Unattended Train Operations on
the Pink Line of the Delhi Metro with Delhi Minister Sh @kgahlot Ji & senior
officials of @MoHUA_India & @OfficialDMRC," Puri tweeted.
"With this Delhi Metro becomes one of the largest driverless metro networks
in the world after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the first driverless
train operations of the Delhi Metro in December 2020, when he flagged off the
driverless operations," he said.
Gahlot said, “This is a milestone. Despite all the difficulties, the DMRC has
completed the work. It will ensure passenger safety and minimise chances of
human errors.”
Dubai, Singapore, Shanghai, Vancouver and Kuala Lumpur are among the few cities
that have driverless Metro train services. With this, the Delhi Metro’s fully
automated network is of 97 km, which is the 4th largest in the world and the
only DTO network in India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first-ever driverless train
on Delhi Metro's Magenta Line on December 28, 2020.
