MCCI founder Kishan Da, carrying a bounty of Rs 1 cr, wife arrested in Jharkhand

RANCHI, Nov 13: Top Maoist leader Prashant Bose, 75, also known as Kishan Da, and his wife Sheela Marandi, 65, two of the most wanted left-wing extremists by the police, have been arrested.

Kishan Da, who had a bounty of Rs 1 cr on his head, and his wife were arrested by the Jharkhand police on Friday from an undisclosed location near Saraikela. Da was also known as Maneesh, Nirbhay and Kajal. He has been underground for over three decades.

Kishan, hailing from Kolkata, was a member of the CPI (Maoist) politbureau and was the secretary of the Eastern Region Maoist Organisation (Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha). He was also a key member of the Maoist Central Committee and the second-in-command after its general secretary Nambala Keshava Rao alias Basavraj.

Da was the founding-member of the Maoist Communist Centre of India (MCCI), which merged with the Communist Party of India (Marxist- Leninist) People’s War Group of Kondapalli Seetharamaiah in 2004 to form the CPI (Maoist). The merger extended the reach of the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) to Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Kishan’s wife was also a top Maoist commander who was arrested in 2006 and was serving her sentence in Rourkela jail. She was released from jail after serving the term in 2016.

Another top Maoist leader, Akki Raju Hargopal alias Ramakrishna alias RK, reportedly died of kidney failure on October 15. RK was the mastermind behind the kidnapping of Odisha cadre IAS officer R Vineel Krishna, former Collector of Malkangiri, in February 2011.
