Bodies of four of six Naval mountaineers missing in avalanche mishap found
The 20-member expedition from the Navy to Mount Trishul in Bageshwar in Uttarakhand was flagged off from Mumbai on September 3. NEW DELHI, Oct 3: The bodies of four of six missing members of a 20-man expedition team from the Navy hit by an avalanche on Friday have been found in Mount Trishul in Uttarakhand after search operations, according to the Defence Ministry. Another Navy man and a porter are still missing. Search operation by the State Disaster Response Force personnel is continuing.

"Deeply anguished by the tragic death of four Navy personnel who were part of the Indian Navy mountaineering expedition to Mt. Trishul. The nation has not only lost precious young lives but also courageous soldiers in this tragedy," Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted.

"My heart goes out to the bereaved families of Lt Cdr Rajnikant Yadav, Lt Cdr Yogesh Tiwari, Lt Cdr Anant Kukreti and Hari Om MCPO II. My thoughts are with their families in this hour of tragedy. Praying for early locating of the remaining team members," Singh said.

Helicopters were pressed into rescue eforts. Personnel from the Army, Air Force and the State Disaster Response Force are searching for the missing men, as also a team from the Uttarkashi-based Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM).

The 20-member team of mountaineers from the Navy to Mount Trishul in Bageshwar in Uttarakhand was flagged off from Mumbai on September 3 and the tragedy took place on Friday. Weather at the paek was reported bad.
