India gets ready to resume int'l scheduled flights as covid recedes
The concerned Ministries are holding consultations regarding the date and covid protocol to fully restart normal international scheduled flights to and from India as the threat of a third covid outbreak recedes. Meanwhile, flights between India and Canada started on Monday with the lifting of the covid restrictions on non-stop flights from India by the Government of Canada. Passengers must carry a negative covid test report from the approved laboratory at the New Delhi International Airport (not any other place) not older than 18 hours, apart from the vaccination certificate which must be uploaded to the ArriveCAN mobile app or website. Passengers not meeting these requirements will not be allowed to fly.

NEW DELHI, Sept 30: The Government of India is planning to resume international scheduled flights very soon. There has been a global shutdown of international flights since March last year following the outbreak of covid pandemic. However, India has been operating essential flights to and from nearly 30 countries under country-to-country air bubble agreements and the Vande Bharat Mission with covid protocols.

The Ministries of Home Affairs and Civil Aviation are holding extensive consultations regarding restarting international scheduled flights in the immediate future, Arvind Singh, Tourism Secretary, told newsmen.

He said the date and the protocols are being worked out by the concerned Ministries of Home and Civil Aviation.

Meanwhile, flights between India and Canada started on Monday with Air Canada and Air India flying from Delhi to Toronto and Vancouver. This followed the lifting of the covid restrictions on non-stop flights from India by the Government of Canada. Canada had imposed restrictions on all direct commercial and private passenger flights from India until September 26.

The air passengers who are planning to fly to Canada must carry a negative covid test report from the approved laboratory at the New Delhi International Airport (not any other place) not older than 18 hours, apart from the vaccination certificate. As per the protocol, the fully vaccinated passengers will have to upload the relevant information into the ArriveCAN mobile app or website. Passengers not meeting these requirements will not be allowed to board.

Air India Delhi-Vancouver Flight Schedule: As per the announcement made by Air India, the airline will resume its non- stop flight to Vancouver (YVR) from Delhi (DEL) every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from October 1, 2021.

Air India Delhi-Toronto Flight Schedule: Air India said it will also resume its non-stop daily flights to Toronto (YYZ) from Delhi (DEL) effective from September 30, 2021 and AI 187 (DEL/YYZ)/AI 188 (YYZ/DEL) of 26/28 Sep to operate on 27/ 29 September 2021.

"People are eager to reunite with family and friends and we are very pleased to resume service immediately from India to our Toronto and Vancouver hubs following the lifting of restrictions by the Government of Canada. We continue to be focused on the growing visiting friends and relatives market, and together with the long-standing cultural and business ties between Canada and India which are expected to grow over the coming years, Air Canada remains strongly committed to this important Asia-Pacific market," said Mark Galardo, Senior Vice President, Network Planning and Revenue Management at Air Canada.

Air Canada is the leading carrier between the two countries. Since service began in 2015, Air Canada has operated flights from Toronto and Vancouver to Delhi and from Toronto to Mumbai. The airline is planning to launch new non-stop flights from Montreal to Delhi and resume service to Mumbai as market conditions allow.
