January 24, 2010 | No respite from fog for Delhiites, flights badly hit | New Delhi: Despite anticipating some relief from a bad weather for last few weeks, there has been no respite for people
here in the national capital from spine-chilling winds and dense fog. On Sunday,
at least 41 flights were hit due to dense fog and commuters were left stranded
at airport lounges. The runway visibility was very poor in the early hours, so
no flight could take off or land till around 8 a.m.. The visibility improved later
on. Passengers had to face a lot of problems, as they complained of getting no
information on the enquiry number. "We faced a lot of problems when we were
about
to start from our home. We had to go back as the fog was too much. We came to
know that the flight was on time so again we left for the airport. There was no
information available on the enquiry number but here it is being displayed that
the flight is on time. We see no chance of the flight taking off," said Ajay Bansal,
a passenger. Four international departures and 11 arrivals were also behind schedule.
Some passengers were left stranded for hours while waiting for their flights to
take off. "We have a flight to Guwahati. It has been delayed. We doubt whether
it will take off or not. It can even get cancelled. We are waiting for the past
two hours. It's all because of the dense fog," said Suryanandan, another passenger.
The weathermen have predicted more foggy conditions in the days to come. Harsh
weather conditions have claimed hundreds of lives in north India , especially
in Uttar Pradesh. |
