German doctor dies, four go missing after scaling Mt Everest

Kathmandu: A German doctor has died and four other mountaineers have gone missing while descending from Mt. Everest, according to a Nepalese official. Ang Tshering of Asian Trekking in Kathmandu confirmed the death of 61-year old German doctor Eberhard Schaaf on Saturday. Schaaf had died due to high-altitude cerebral edema, the Daily Express reports. Kamal Shrestha of Nepal's Mountaineering Department said that a Nepal-born Canadian national identified as Shriya Shah has also gone missing. Shrestha said that he only knew that a Korean, a Chinese and a Nepali Sherpa guide had gone missing, and could not provide further details. May is the busiest month for climbing the 29,035-foot high Mt. Everest.
