Jamshedpur zoo makes cooling arrangements for animals

     Jamshedpur: Zoo authorities at the Tata Steel Zoological Park here are busy making cooling arrangements to protect animals from the scorching heat. Effective cooling systems have been installed and the caretakers splash water at regular intervals in the enclosures to protect the animals from heat. Bipul Chakraborty, the director of the zoo, said all necessary measures have been initiated to protect the animals. "We have taken all necessary measures for the welfare of the animals. We have installed coolers, have spread fodder and the cage and the mattresses are made up of bamboo so that animals can be saved from heat," he said. Authorities are also taking special care of the diet of the inmates. The animals are periodically fed them medicines and glucose to avoid dehydration. "We have made arrangements of water especially in the tiger enclosure. We regularly bathe them in morning and in the evening. We also give them some anti stress medicines to protect them from heat strokes. Exhaust fans, water coolers in the cages of lion, tiger, leopard and black beers have been installed," said Manik Palit, a doctor. Many pools are made inside the enclosures to ensure sufficient water for the animals. Although there was a dip in mercury in the northern and eastern states last month, heat wave has gripped most parts of the country.
